Who’s ready for seconds of the Best Desserts in LA? Part 1 of Best Desserts in Los Angeles did so well, I just had to test some more out for you. It was a tough task, but someone had to do it!
I’ve included a good variety of dessert spots ranging from ice cream to bakeries to mochi and I hope this excites you as much as it does for me to share it with all of you!
No long intro about how much I love dessert; we don’t do that here. We get right to the good stuff. Let’s go!
Bumsam Organic Milkbar
I’m a huge soft-serve fan and couldn’t wait a day (literally, I went a day after I discovered them on TikTok) to try Bumsam Organic Milkbar in K-Town. I dragged my fellow sweet-tooth friend along and to our surprise, there was no line on a hot, Saturday afternoon! Having had a lot of “Instagrammable” food in the last few years, sometimes things are pretty but the taste doesn’t stack up. Not in this case! The soft-serve was delicious (I especially enjoyed the Taro & Chocolate Swirl) and the cone options are too fun. I’m a Fruity Pebbles kinda gal, so I had to grab the Fruity Pebbles cone. Worth it!
Donut Friend
You know my opinions are genuine because I’m going to tell you that I wasn’t, in fact, a fan of Donut Friend when I first tried it about a year ago. Because of that, I never went back until last week! I was having a craving and Donut Friend happened to be the closest place at the time. I’m so glad I decided to give it another try because now I’m calling them one of the best desserts in LA! I loved both the Mint Chocolate and Pumpkin Pie donut – so moist and flavorful. It’s a bonus for me that they serve Stumptown Coffee, too!
Jessie’s Corner
Truly one of my favorite places for baked goods, Jessie’s Corner found me on IG! I’m so grateful she reached out because not only are her baking skills top notch, but Jessie is just as sweet as her treats! While she doesn’t currently have a storefront, you can DM her via IG and place your order. Check out her menu here! My favorites? It’s hard to choose but the Big Ol’ Chocolate Chip Cookie and Matcha Mini Bundt Cake have to be some of the best desserts in LA.
Dragon Boba
I had time to kill in K-Town before getting soft-serve at Bumsam and ended up walking by Dragon Boba just to spot my favorite thing ever: mochi donuts. Yes, they have boba (amongst several other things) and yes the boba milk tea was fine, but the mochi donut is the item you need to go try. The matcha, black sesame and ube were my favorites!
Birdies
I’ve loved Birdie’s for so long, I can’t believe this is the first time I’m telling you about their donuts and fried chicken. For the sake of this post, I’ll keep quiet on the savory food they have (but let me just say this – their fried chicken and french fries are AH-MAZING.) The donuts are what land them on the list of best desserts in LA. The horchata twist is my favorite!
Pie Hole
I love pie. Pumpkin is my favorite (my editor Grace makes the best pumpkin pie, IMO) followed closely by basically every damn pie from Pie Hole. Just like I said with Birdie’s, I’ve loved Pie Hole for years and I don’t understand how this is the first time it’s showing up on my blog. At Pie Hole, you can have it all – a savory pie as your main meal and a sweet pie for dessert. They even have ‘pie holes’ which are basically donut holes made of pie. So, so good. Their Earl Grey and Mexican Chocolate pie are to die for. Just go try. You’re welcome!
Fūgetsudo Bakery Shop
One of my best friends Sid (not sure if he’s reading this but giving credit where credit is due!) is a fellow dessert lover and he introduced me to Fugetsudo. Since I was born and raised in Japan (so super picky about Japanese food), he was nervous but confident about presenting the mochi from Fugetsudo. And I’m so glad he did! They’re a small Japanese family-owned business in Little Tokyo and their mochi makes me homesick (that’s a good thing.) The mochi, the kinako (soy powder), the anko (red bean paste) – are all top notch quality. Huge, huge fan! Fun fact: one of my favorite brunch spots, Jist Cafe, serves mochi pancakes using Fugetsudo’s mochi!
Sugar Factory
Alright Angelinos, don’t hate me for listing the Sugar Factory. For the tourists among you who haven’t visited a Sugar Factory location, read on. You want dessert? Go big or go home at Sugar Factory located in Century City. They have an insane menu overall, but their desserts and milkshakes are the highlight! Another honest moment here; the food is very average but damn the desserts and drinks satisfy the sweet-tooth (and the ‘gram!) While Sugar Factory is a chain, a trip to this location will for sure have you convinced they have some of the best desserts in LA.
Bonus: Best Desserts in Irvine
I know this post is technically for the best desserts in Los Angeles but Orange County is close enough. Plus, I know some of you will travel for good food, so I decided to include these two spots in Irvine! Pro-tip: the Hello Kitty Cafe and Honey and Butter are both at Irvine Spectrum, so kill two birds with one stone. That’s what I did!
Hello Kitty Cafe (Irvine)
You’re lying if you don’t think Hello Kitty is cute (or at least iconic!) Everyone loved my original Hello Kitty Cafe post and since the Arcadia location was a temporary pop-up, I had to do right by my readers and write about the permanent location in Irvine. You guys, yes, I’m biased because Hello Kitty is Japanese and I was raised in Sanrio culture but gosh darnit it’s so effing cute there! It’s worth it. GO! You can have afternoon tea (darrrrrling), cocktails, or just have coffee. Read more about it on my updated post!
Honey & Butter (Irvine)
I have to give credit to one of my former colleague, Michelle, for this one. We had an in-person meeting and she was kind enough to bring me Honey and Butter macarons! Not only is everything about Honey and Butter cute (the packaging, the insane macaron designs), the macarons are delicious. Apparently, they sell out often but thankfully when I went, it was early on a weekday and had plenty!
