I love to support our favorite local coffee shops in DTLA (#supportsmall #support local!) alongside our big brand favorites. Basically, if the coffee is good, I’m there! I’m a bit of a coffee fiend, so lucky for me DTLA has countless options for basically any variation on a cup-o-joe you can imagine. Throw in a delicious pastry or out-of-this-world brunch, and you’ll see why these spots have made the list.
Keepers
Keepers, pictured at the top, is one of the newest additions to the DTLA coffee scene (and food too, but I’ll save that for another post). Located in Little Tokyo, they have a restaurant (great outdoor dining option!) and a separate coffee window for your caffeine and bakery needs. If you enjoy a more acidic coffee with a pow, you’re going to love them. Don’t forget to grab a Chocolate Oat Scone, Miso Madelines, Mochi Donuts or their Black Sesame Cupcake to even out the palette!
No Ghost Bears
A visit to No Ghost Bears has become our Sunday tradition. With decorative bears and pink wallpaper, the decor is absolutely darling. Of course, there’s a bit of DTLA edge with touches like their “Good Coffee, Shit People” mural. Menu options like CBD coffee additives give No Ghost Bears a unique edge if you’re looking to try something very LA. They’re also super dog friendly, so Oshie loves it as much as I do. We love to head here after a stop at the LA Flower Market, which is just one block away.
Chimney Coffee
If you follow me on Instagram, it won’t come as a surprise to see Chimney Coffee on this list. Their brunch and baked goods are absolutely to die for. The French Toast, BAE Burger, and the Matcha Scone are some of our favorites, to name a few. Shoutout to Chimney Coffee owner Charlie for always making us feel so welcome taking great care of his customers!
Tilt Coffee Bar
A DTLA hidden gem tucked between restaurants and an apartment complex, Tilt Coffee Bar is a pint-sized stop to grab your favorite coffee. With a perfect five-star Yelp review, you know I had to try this place for myself. And I can report – the Cloud Mocha and Cloud Lattes are both absolutely delicious.
Tierra Mia Coffee
With several locations throughout the Los Angeles area, you can plan a stop no matter where in LA your travels take you. A Latinx-owned, Tierra Mia specializes in turning your favorite Latin flavors into delectable coffee and treats. They’re famous for the Horchata Frappuccino, and the Tres Leches Muffin is fantastic.
Urth Caffe
Another favorite haunt of ours, Urth Caffe had to make it to this list! They have an amazing selection of both coffee and tea options, and their desserts are some of my go-to’s. We love to head here for brunch basically any day of the week, and they have lots of outdoor seating options to accommodate for COVID protocol.
Cafe Dulce
Cafe Dulce is probably one of the most Instagrammable stops on this list, particularly with their super cute donuts. They have a great menu featuring Asian-inspired drinks and baked goods. The Green Tea Brick Toast, Roti, and Iced BlueBerry Matcha are some of the must-try options on the list. You can visit either of their two locations (USC Village and Little Tokyo) to give them a try.
Verve Coffee
An LA favorite, Verve Coffee has three locations in DTLA alone. Their branding and interior decor just get me – I can’t wait to go back once indoor dining is back on the table! But there’s more to love than just their aesthetic. Their iced lattes are some of the best I’ve ever had – it’s an LA staple for a reason.
Blue Bottle Coffee
I wish I had Blue Bottle’s Almond Butter and Jam Toast and a latte right now as I’m writing this. I frequent the DTLA location right across from Grand Central Market (there’s a second DTLA location in the Arts District) but you can find Blue Bottle nationwide – there are over a dozen locations in SoCal alone.
Bohemian House of Espresso + Chai
This is the place to go if you’re looking for something off the beaten path. Bohemian House of Espresso + Chai specializes in, as you might have guessed, espresso and chai! Their chai latte is my favorite – it’s not your typical chai mix. Their unique flavors are worth the visit alone!
Philz Coffee
Founded in the Mission District in San Francisco, Philz has a loyal cult following – and for good reason! They boast unique blends like their cult-fave Rose blend. The Rose isn’t my favorite, but I do love the Iced Mint Mojito Latte. With an array of unique options, there’s something for everyone.
