This post is in collaboration with PADI. However, all opinions and experiences as always, are my own.
I’m so excited to be partnering with PADI (The Professional Association of Diving Instructors) to celebrate the third-annual Women’s Dive Day on July 15th.
Women’s Dive Day is a day where divers – both male and female alike – will unite around the world through hundreds of different events hosted by PADI Dive Centers and Resorts to celebrate female divers, all the while aiming to decrease the gender gap in scuba certification. To give you a little more background, PADI is the world’s largest scuba diver training organization, having issued more than 25 million certifications to passionate divers and ocean advocates across the globe. Women’s Dive Day is just one example of how this powerful group can unite as one under a worthwhile cause.
Scuba diving has always been an experience that is consistently magical, wherever I do it. My experience of scuba diving started fairly young when my family and I were vacationing in Okinawa. After exploring the deep waters of beautiful Okinawa, I continued to dive in Saipan and Hawaii. It’s been a good amount of years since I last dove but now that I’m looking back on it, I really need to go again soon!
With that said, I’m joining PADI in their Mermaid Movement to raise awareness to female divers about the many benefits of scuba diving. So without further ado, here’s their Women’s Dive Day video and five amazing benefits of scuba diving!
1. Explore Life Underwater (+ Take Magical Photos!) – This has to be the number 1 reason and benefit to scuba dive. It’s amazing to dive deep into the waters to see what life is like down there. You get to take in the beauty nature has to offer from the rocks, corals, fishes, turtles and maybe even sharks! If you’ve never dived before, trust me when I say you’ll gasp a few times from the excitement of what your eyes will see. You’ll truly feel like a mermaid, swimming through the corals, looking up at the land and befriending sea creatures. Plus, you can take stunning underwater photos that you’ll cherish forever.
2. Take a Mental Health Day – I’m guilty of constantly sitting in front of a screen, checking my phone a million times a day and getting stressed from work or life in general. Give yourself a mental health day, go diving and hang out underwater where it’s super quiet! Diving gives you a break from the office, kids, your cell phone and the stresses of daily life and allows you to internalize, relax and unwind. Literally dive away and into a different world!
3. Make New Friends & Strengthen Relationships – When diving with people, you always need to have mutual trust between one another and work (and play) as a team. This deepens and strengthens your relationship whether it’s with your spouse, friends or family. Most of the time, you’ll be diving with new people and they quickly become new friends. Not only will you have a fantastic time underwater, you can also enhance existing relationships and create new ones!
4. Travel to New Places – It’s no secret that scuba diving can be done in hundreds of locations across the world. With more than 6,400 PADI Dive Centers and resorts located worldwide, the destinations for underwater exploration are endless! If you stay somewhere near the water, chances are, there’s an opportunity to scuba dive. By getting hooked on scuba diving, you get to explore new territories underwater in addition to being somewhere new, discovering new cultures and before you know it, you’re a world traveler! Here’s a list of all the places you can vacation to for scuba diving!
5. Sense of Strength and Accomplishment – Diving can seem challenging in the beginning. You must trust other people, your instructor and your equipment. Definitely a challenge! Once underwater, you may face other challenges of encountering a shark or exploring an unfamiliar environment. Whatever your challenge may be, the experience itself is so worth it and builds confidence. During and after a dive, you feel a sense of strength and accomplishment from embracing these challenges, and it feels so great!

We can certainly get behind this! Unfortunately Women's Dive Day in NZ is right in the middle of winter and we just had a nationwide snowstorm so we were more inclined to be hitting the mountains than the ocean!
YES! I thought of you as I worked on this post 🙂 Oh noooo that's true – well hopefully you can dive sooner than later! Thanks for stopping by, Juliette! xo
