As much as I love writing about destinations, there’s so much more to travel than just pictures of beautiful places and delicious, local cuisine. I enjoy reading fellow Travel Blogger’s lifestyle-esque posts so much and decided to start writing some of my own. To my surprise, my Top 10 Hotel Necessities post did well and received great feedback!
So here I am, coming to you with answers to a few question I get asked fairly often:
- What travel-friendly skincare do you recommend?
- Is your skincare different from home vs. traveling?
Skincare is incredibly important for me and always has been. I spend more money on skincare than I do makeup because good skin is the base for great makeup application, can we agree? I also take it a notch above by having skincare appropriate for the weather I’m going to be in. So to question #2, yes – my skincare does differ from home vs. traveling.
Good Night:
Here’s my order of events before bed!
Neutrogena Makeup Removing Wipes – These are my holy grail makeup removing item. It’s so important not to irritate your eye area or be forceful on the skin around your eye or lashes when removing makeup. I’ve tried over 10 brands of makeup removers and this is the best one. At home, I use the liquid form but for travel, the wipes are perfection.
Sara Happ Sparking Pink Grapefruit Lip Scrub – Whenever I have any kind of lip product on, I’ll use a lip scrub to get it off as well as any dry skin. Obviously it doesn’t have to be this particular lip scrub but I love anything grapefruit or citrus scented and this smells divine!
First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Purifying Mask – With all the rage of face masks right now, this is my #1 mask of choice. I love a good mask I can peel off. The satisfaction of peeling goop of your face is so soothing! Anyone else agree? This mask has a sticky texture that glides onto your skin, making it tingle a little bit but then turns into a red sheen. The stickiness disappears and you can peel it off in one fell swoop. My skin feels so good afterwards, too!
Shiseido Benefiance Wrinkleresist24 Eye Contour Cream – Even though I mentioned I spend more money on skincare than makeup, I do have a limit on the splurge front. I think this is the most splurgy item of all but trust me, it’s worth it. Let’s be real, nothing is a miracle worker but this cream makes my under-eyes so soft to the touch but keeps the skin firm. Although, it’s a bit thick so I only use it at night.
Sephora Total Age Defy Night Moisture Cream – I’ve repurchased this 6 times and I never do that. Night creams can be very pricey for reasons I’m not aware of but this is a great deal at $34. A little goes a long way and even used nightly, it lasts at least 3+ months. It smells and feels luxurious on your skin as you fall asleep. In the morning, your skin feels moisturized – like it did something great for you!
Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin Cream – After my eyes and face, it’s time for the lips and other dry areas. I don’t like moisturizing my entire body before bed but I do pay attention to my knees and elbows. This cream is so versatile! You can use it for almost everything! I put some on my lips, my elbows, knees and voila! All done. This also comes in a travel size, which is perfect for travel!
Good Morning:
This is my morning routine after taking a shower and before putting on makeup!
The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Toner – After the shower, I use a toner just to clear up my skin. A lot of toner includes alcohol but this one doesn’t. My skin can be oily and at times acne prone but this has made a huge difference in those areas. For travel, I use their wipes so I don’t have to carry around any extra liquids.
Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel – I use this gel at home and during travel but only during the summer. The gel is extremely light and probably wouldn’t be great if you have dry skin. During the winter I use the same brand but in lotion form, which is much thicker. If you have dry skin, this would be perfect! They have the most perfect travel size for both forms which I love!
First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Lotion – My favorite lotion for the neck down! It’s very gentle and moisturizing for the traveling skin. My skin sometimes acts strange and gets extra dry (other than my face) during travel and this makes me feel so much better. They have plenty of travel size options too!

There it is! After years of experimentation, I feel like I’ve finally found a great collection of skincare that I can’t go without during travel. I hope this helps or gives you ideas for your next trip! I would love to know what your holy grail skin product is during travel. Please do share in the comments below!

Ooh I'll definitely have to look into the tea tree toner! I have lots of skin issues and definitely find that it gets worse when I travel to hot and humid destinations – maybe the tea tree will help!
Hi Flo! Yes – the tea tree toner is AMAZING! Plus, the Body Shop is so international I figured several people could get their hands on one! Their lotion, face wash, the entire set is pretty decent! Let me know if you try it! xo
You are so right that travelling is more than just a destination. Love this post and love the Tea tree toner myself, in fact just the Tea Tree oil is a great SOS emergency product for break outs. My go to travel must is also from from Body Shop, the Vitamin E Facial Mist. It's amaxing for in flight skin boots, when you get dry and tired especially long haul. It's a an incredible product and also sets make up when your not travelling. #FlyAwayFriday
These sound great! My skin has been acting up recently so this post is actually super helpful. I love the Neutrogena Makeup Removing Wipes too! That First Aid Beauty Skin Purifying Mask sounds perfect too.
Oh wow, that is a list! The tea tree toner sounds great. I will have to look into that. Nice to connect with you more via #flyawayfriday
I've considered upping my skincare routine since I don't do much with it at this point. The reason I haven't is because I'm always packing up and moving around/traveling and I don't want to carry too much with me. I think I'll have to find some travel size products to test out. Right now my routine is cream cleanser + moisturizer. Done.
What a great routine! I'm always finding it's not easy to stick with a skin care routine when I travel so it's great to get some tips on how to handle it bit by bit.
Holy crap! Haha!! There are so many different products that you use! I am pretty easy-going, I use an UK brand that they sell here in Australia too and it's called Simple. They have everything from makeup removal wipes, to face moisturizers, toners and face washes. They all come in travel sizes too and the best part is they are 100% alcohol free and contain no artificial perfume or colors, instead it's packed with pro-vitamin B5 and pro-vitamin B3 in addition to chamomile, witch hazel and allantoin which they call the skin loving ingredients. Interesting to read about your routine, Kana! Thanks for sharing it with us! x
I have really dry skin. The only thing that I have found that works for it is cetaphil cream, especially for my hands and feet. I haven't tried the Clinique lotion though. #FlyAwayFriday
Love this! It's actually funny because all my products are Korean now, and whenever you buy from a skincare store here, you get a TON of freebie samples. So while my at-home is a little more extensive, my traveling is usually a bunch of samples!
I should really start carrying travel sized toner when I travel. The one I use at home is large so I don't bother packing it, but my face tends to get really oily. I'm curious, though do you ever have a hard time fitting all these products into your bag? We try to travel really light and I can imagine my hubs eyes growing large if I whipped all these out.
I've definitely tried some of these products because of your post! I often neglect skin care when I go on the road but obviously it's not cute when adult break-outs occur! Awesome post! xo
We travel with hand-luggage only and my bag tends to be packed full; so I have next to no room for skin care products at the moment. I have picked up the odd tube of moisturiser from motels/hostels, and used these, but otherwise my routine is seriously lacking in existence i'm afraid.
I am all about the face wipe, even when I'm at home, they just make life so much easier. I also love coconut oil for everything from lotion to eye cream, haha I'm a little obsessed. Its so nice to have a good skin care routine down.
Haha, I'm not sure if my first comment posted or not but I love Neautragena wipes! They are my number one go-to along with their sunscreen. I love using them especially after a long flight to freshen up real quick!
I had no idea Tea Tree Oil is a good emergency product for breakouts! No wonder it works so well for my skin! Oh my gosh thank you so much for the recommendation of the mist! I'm going to go check it out immediately! Thanks for stopping by! xo
Aww I'm glad they were helpful! Yessss, twins for the Neutrogena Wipes – they're so great for waterproof make-up too! Thanks so much for stopping by! xo
Thank you! Yes, so great to connect and can't wait to have you on the blog soon! π xo
I'm so jealous you don't have to do much! I have acne prone skin that's very sensitive so I have to do everything possible, sadly! Love your routine though, if only! Haha π xo
I know right?! Haha, my skin is so acne prone and sensitive, I've had to perfect the art! Ahh Simple products! I've never used them but so popular over here. I'll try it out, thanks for the suggestion! xo
Cetaphil is wonderful, I agree! It's so simple and classic! Thanks so much for stopping by! xo
I sometimes do that too! Sephora always gives me samples so I do carry those around. Korean products are awesome, just like Japanese skin care products! Thanks so much for stopping by! xo
The toner is a savior! The Body Shop one does have the wipes which is really similar so if you prefer wipes, I suggest that one. Haha, yes to your question about fitting everything in a bag. I do transfer some of the creams into those tiny plastic containers when I'm fighting for space! Thanks so much for stopping by! xo
Aww yay! I know, I always just carried around make-up but now that I'm not-so-young I have to prioritize skincare, ya know?! Haha π Thanks so much for stopping by! xo
I completely understand! I try to always travel with only a carry-on so it's hard to have too much skin care. I wish I could use hotel stuff without irritation or breakouts!!! Thanks for stopping by! xo
Yeess me too! I use the wipes at home as well! I really need to get on that coconut oil train – I haven't used it at all yet. Thank you for the recommendation! xo
I don't know why but my comments don't show up sometimes…but this one did! Yeesss the wipes are awesome! xo
