Want to keep up your fitness routine while traveling? You’ve arrived at the right place! I’m sharing the best travel workout equipment options that have become essentials every time I pack my bags.

I don’t talk about this much here on Life in Wanderlust, but for context, I want to share that over the last two years, I’ve lost over 90 pounds. During this time, exercise has become a big part of my life – and for the first time in my life, I even enjoy it! Because of that, I’ve started to exercise while traveling and have picked up a few good tips and tricks along the way – and now I’m sharing them with you!

In-Room Fitness

If you prefer to exercise in the comfort of your own room, or you’re staying in a home or hotel without a fitness center, I’ve got the best travel workout equipment for you.

I love using these Sculpt Discs by Tone it Up for a quick but challenging workout. Lightweight and easily packable, these are a great option to do an in-room workout. You can find tons of free video workouts to follow on YouTube like this one based on what area you want to target and how long you want your workout to be.

If you typically lift weights as part of your workout routine, resistance bands are a great alternative that won’t weigh you down. For an ultra-packable option, this flat band kit is so lightweight you can even throw them in your purse or carry-on. Give this video a try to work your upper body on the go.

Ankle weights have been a great discovery for me, both at home and on the go. These ankle weights offer a great alternative that still adds some resistance and strength training to a leg workout, and they’re no heavier than packing a pair of boots or a book.

One tricky thing about working out on the go for me is doing any floorwork in a hotel room (yuck). When you’re looking for the best travel workout equipment, make sure you include some sort of mat. The lululemon Travel Yoga Mat is a great option. Its natural rubber is a perfect base for any kind of exercise, and it folds up to the size of a sweater, so it’s ultra-packable. Looking for an option that’s a little more budget-friendly? Go for the Gaiam Foldable Yoga Mat.

Jumping rope is a great option for cardio when space is at a premium. Consider adding a speed rope to your packing list.

Want to do a little bit of everything? Grab a kit like this one. It includes resistance bands, ankle straps, and a door anchor, setting you up for a great workout anywhere.

Fitness and Aquatic Center Workouts

If your hotel has a fitness center, grab a pair of lightweight sneakers, like the Allbirds Tree Runners. I love this pair because they’re functional (great support and breathability), so much so I’ve accumulated 4 pairs of Allbirds!

If you’re staying at a hotel with a pool, make sure to pack a pair of Speedo Swim Goggles and a simple suit like this Target One-Piece Swimsuit. I also love the Nike Essential One-Piece for comfort and durability.

Packable Workout Wear

Who wants to overpack, am I right? After a lifetime of traveling, I’ve learned to pack smart! I always try to choose pieces that will work for multiple occasions so I’m able to limit how much I pack. Here are my personal favorites that can go from daily wear to workout time.

The American Eagle Longline Sports Bra (LIW Editor‘s favorite pick!) is buttery soft, and at under $30 feels way more expensive than it is.

It’s hard to beat the lululemon Align Pant when you’re looking for comfort and durability. They come in tons of cute colors and prints, so you can pick something basic and versatile or fun floral print.

The Zella Live-in Leggings have a big selling point – pockets! We all love a pocket for your phone or room key, so this pair is ideal for heading to the fitness center or for a jog around the hotel.

Leave it to Target for a budget-friendly option! At just $20, the Target brand All in Motion Leggings are perfect to toss in your suitcase.

Post-Workout Essentials

Now the question – what do I do with my sweaty workout clothes? When I started working out while traveling, I didn’t realize how much I needed these post-workout accessories! Now I swear by them.

We all know laundry is not always readily available when you’re traveling. If you’re working out on the go, having a Travel Laundry Bag will make your life much easier and keep your suitcase smelling fresh.

The Megababe Rosy Pits Deodorant Wipes are perfect for a quick refresher to go grab breakfast in the lobby after your in-room workout. They’re also nice to just stash in your bag for a toasty day on the go!

I like to get a cheap deodorant to throw in my carry-on when I travel, and the Secret Solid Deodorant Ball works perfectly and comes in a convenient purse-size ball.
