The Perfect Day Trip Itinerary for Cape Cod

Thanks to one of my best friends getting married last Saturday, I had the opportunity to visit both Cape Cod and Boston for the first time! The wedding itself was in Cape Cod but I couldn’t pass up adding a few days to explore Boston!

Minus the time spent at the beautiful wedding (congrats again, R & A!), I enjoyed approximately a day in Cape Cod and discovered a few places worthy of mention! Since my Boston experience will be chock full of photos and recommendations, I figured Cape Cod deserved individual love!

Drive – The drive from Boston Logan International Airport to Cape Cod takes anywhere from 1.5 – 2.5 hours. Cape Cod is an interesting shape, like a curled witch nail, so depending on which town you’re trying to get to, it could be a whole 1 hour difference! Make sure you grab some Dunkin Donuts coffee and munchkins (they’re everywhere!) for the road trip!

Devour Brunch – There’s no rhyme or reason as to why I chose Keltic Kitchen for brunch. I loved the name and it was in a convenient location to us – that was it! When we got there, there were a bunch of people waiting outside which I wasn’t happy about but hey, it probably means it’s good right? The brunch crowd turned out to be quick. With over 10 parties waiting, we got seated in about 20 minutes. In the back of the restaurant, they have an Irish Market so we killed most of our wait time there. Brunch was delicious! We ordered the French Toast Sampler and the Potato Pancakes. I can taste it right now, mmmm.

Play at the Lake: After the wedding, we wanted to get some lake time and decided to stop by the first lake we found. We ended up at Bass River Park. I’m sure where we parked was only one of many docks but there was a small hut that rented out paddle boats and kayaks! Jackpot! We paid a minimal fee ($5 or less), paddled and kayaked through the beautiful Bass River which was so much fun!

Eat Dinner: Again, absolutely no rhyme or reason why we chose this place for dinner other than convenience. After a fun time at the lake, we drove out to the Hyannis area. We hopped into Portside Tavern and did not regret it! Since we were in the New England area, we wanted to focus on seafood. We got a small size of the Lobster Mac & Cheese and a Garlic Shrimp Pizza. Oh, my, gosh. The Mac & Cheese may not look appealing in the photo but trust me, it was packed with big lobster chunks, creamy cheese and al dente pasta. To die for. The pizza was a close runner-up with chock full of fresh garlic shrimp. Needless to say, we had no leftovers.

Sunset At The Beach: If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I’m obsessed with capturing magnificent sunsets. Kalmus Beach Park came highly recommended and wow, were they right! Unfortunately, the sand isn’t as soft as the Southern California or Hawaiian beaches but the tradeoff was the overabundance of shells! Beautiful shells everywhere, I wish I could have brought them all home. The views were stunning. This sunset above didn’t even look real with the dramatic clouds and bright orange sunset! We ended up hanging out there for over an hour in awe and didn’t want to leave!

♡♡♡

The beaches, lakes, seafood, flawlessly preserved New England homes and friendly residents make Cape Cod the most charming! If you ever make it out to the Boston area, don’t miss out! Set at least a day aside dedicated to Cape Cod and you won’t be sorry!

I visited last summer and absolutely loved Boston, Cape Cod AND Martha's Vineyard. The food is out of this world, and the scenery very hard to beat. Loved reading the post 🙂

Man…I lived in Boston for a year and never made the trip to Cape Cod. What do you recommend for the best time of year? Do you think it could be enjoyable in April?

Hi Krissy! Oh bummer! I definitely think it's beautiful all year long there depending on the type of weather you prefer, but I'm sure April would be absolutely gorgeous too! Thanks so much for stopping by! xo

We are in Plymouth, Massachusetts working and are planning on a day trip down the Cape this week. There is another place in Hyannis called the Black Cat Tavern that had some amazing Chowder.

    Hi Krissy!and Kana!
I have a trailer on Cape Cod and we open it every April 15, LOVE going early in the season as there are literally thousands less people there….only drawback: some events and venues that would be fun to see aren't open. Great plus: no need for paying for many beach parking spots, can bring dog to beach and so much less traffic, congestion, and wait times for restaurants!
