Our Maui Engagement Story || Ad

I have partnered with Jewelers Mutual for this post. However, all opinions are as always, my own.

While a few of you already know this, I got engaged last November. I’ve had some readers ask me to discuss the engagement but I had so much travel and work happening, I didn’t have the chance to share the experience. But today, I’m excited to finally sit down and tell you the story of our engagement that happened last year in Maui, Hawaii!

About Us: My fiancé and I met 7 years ago when he was visiting Portland, where I lived. My best friend was dating his cousin at the time and we were casually introduced. A few months prior, I had gotten out of a long relationship that ended poorly, so I wasn’t looking for anything new. He and I hit it off that night, making plans to keep in touch. Since then, we visited each other back and forth from Portland and Los Angeles for 2 years before I made a big decision to move down to California. While we had so much in common, the number one thing that brought us together was travel (surprise, surprise!). 6 years later, last November while we were vacationing in Maui, Hawaii he popped the question!

Popping the Question: One of the last mornings in Maui, he woke me up early for a sunrise walk along the beach. I had an inkling that it could happen, but was not expecting it. I am not a morning person, so I walked grumpily with him down to the beach. It was so early that there were absolutely no people out there, which I’m still shocked about! We walked on the sand and watched one of the final sunrises of the trip. It was quiet and we weren’t talking much; just taking in the beautiful sight.

After the sun rose completely, I begged him for some coffee as I brushed off the sand. When I turned around, he was on his knee with the beautiful ring! To be completely honest, I wasn’t listening to anything he was saying because of the shock. I think all I actually heard was “….me?” of “will you marry me?”. I’m a cry baby so I bawled and managed a ‘yes!’.

About the Ring:

The ring he gave me actually wasn’t a surprise; I had sent my best friends a list of ring choices and sizes that he can choose from. So I knew what I wanted for my engagement ring, but who knew there was such a thing as a ring insurance? Jewelers Mutual knows how to keep your ring safe and sound. Turns out, it’s one of those things that people and wedding websites don’t emphasize. I’m glad my Mom actually recommended I look for insurance after he popped the question! If you’re like me and have no clue what this entails, read up on the Jewelry Insurance 101 for some helpful tips!

I was hoping he would pick out this ring so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it. It’s a beautiful shape, setting and size. It’s not too small, not too big and in my eyes, perfect. I’m so pleased with the ring and wear it proudly every day.

Post-Engagement & Wedding Planning:

After the initial excitement of the engagement, I quickly started the wedding planning. I used to manage events at hotels so I definitely had an advantage on where to go, what to do, etc. Since I’ve always wanted a fall season wedding, we agreed on October 14th, 2017 which gave us just about one year to plan and organize.

Wedding planning can be hectic but having jewelry insurance gives me the peace of mind to know I don’t have to worry about my ring, whatever happens. Whether you’re recently engaged or already married, Jewelers Mutual makes getting a free online quote quick and easy. Especially for my readers that are travel and adventure-obsessed like me, do yourself a favor and get a free jewelry insurance quote to protect your cherished ring!

Kana, I'm so incredibly happy for you. You make a beautiful couple! I planned my destination wedding on my own and loved it. So much so, I actually almost quit my job and started a wedding planner business. But then we moved and it was not the right place any more. I'm sure you will be a stunning bride and will have the wedding of your dreams! xoxo, nano
