Happy New Year, everyone! Wow, 2016 went by in seriously a flash! I can’t believe it’s already a new year. A lot happened in 2016 and sad to see it go; traveled a lot, saw my family more, met fantastic fellow travel bloggers, started a new business, got engaged to name a few!
So yes, 2016 was wonderful but I have a feeling 2017 is going to be even better! I already have tentative travel plans which I’ll share below, a new business venture, a wedding to plan, a puppy in the works and some New Year’s Resolutions I hope to accomplish!
New Year’s Resolutions for 2017:
Get Fit & Healthy – Yes, I know it sounds totally cliche but this has NEVER been my resolution before! Ok, maybe in 7th grade when it was cool to say that but ever since being an ‘adult’, I’ve never made this my resolution. But with some frightening doctor’s appointments and a wedding coming up, this is a serious resolution I intend on maintaining. I’m thinking of a standing desk for my office, lots of water, salads for lunch and designated cheat days. If you have ANY advice, please leave some in the comments!
Say “YES!” More – I need to say yes to adventures, yes to opportunities, yes to new friends, all without overanalyzing and being critical. Turning things down that aren’t aligned with your goals or vision is also very important but I personally need to open up more. Here’s to more leaps of faith and yes’s!
Go On More Local Adventures – I used to be good about LA Local Loves posts, a series where I introduce things to do in the Los Angeles area. But 2016 had a lot of travel (which I’m so grateful for!) and not much time to explore the city. That’s changing in 2017, though! Not only will I strive to be better about it, I also have a new contributor to my blog, Wendy from The Frolic Project! that will be sharing her adventures through LA for this blog! Yay! In fact, the first one is live next week! Keep an eye out!
Travel Plans for 2017:
- Napa Valley, California
- Temecula, California
- New York City, New York
- Seattle, Washington
- Detroit, Michigan
- Tokyo, Japan
- Osaka, Japan
- Viti Levu, Fiji
- Sydney, Australia
- Auckland, New Zealand
- & TONS of local Southern California cities!

What are your 2017 travel plans and/or resolutions? Do share! If you have a blog post about it, share the link below so others and I can check it out!
I am with you on trying to be healthier. I was such a good girl, but then Japan happened with all the ramen and dessert shops and exploring, so I have no time left for the gym and nutrition went to hell. Excuses! I'll make sure to make time to work out and eat properly except for one day a week when I go out in Tokyo or elsewhere to explore. Are you coming back for the cherry blossom season? Would LOVE to meet up if you'll have time of course. Maybe we could do a style photoshoot together? π I also hope to make it to NZ and AUS this year. Will be following your travels to Fiji though, such a paradise! xoxo, nano travelwithnanob.com
YAYYYY This is so exciting! I'm super honored to be a part of this and can't wait to discover cool things to do and see along with everyone.
BUT OMG AUSTRALIA?!
Haha it's so hard in Japan isn't it?! Such delicious food!!!! I AM going back for cherry blossom season – I would LOVE to meet with you too!!!! Let's go out for lunch and a photoshoot, I would love that!!!!
Yay!!!!!!
Haha yeah Australia! Honeymoon!!!!
Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! I'm with you – I want to do more local travels this year.
Your travel plans for this year look so exciting – especially Japan – that's one place really high on my bucket list right now.
Also congratulations on your engagement π #FlyAwayFriday
Congrats on your engagement! That's a long travel list to tackle in addition to planning a wedding but I have no doubt you can do it! I, too, am hoping to do a lot more travel that is somewhat local.
Congrats on your engagement! That's exciting! And yes to all of these. I also want to get healthier this year. After I had my first kid, the baby weight just fell off and I was back to my original weight with no problem. But after I had my second baby (over a year ago) it's been a lot harder. This is the year I'm going to lose that last ten pounds.
And of course, I'm with you about saying yes more. I over analyze everything. I'm not going to do that this year. #FlyAwayFriday
Congratulations! You must be so excited and happy!
So, looking through your 2017 list was funny because this year I also have plans to go to three of the same places as you. We're leaving for Sydney next week and I HAVE to go to Napa this year, because I've put it off for a year and a half now for no reason.
Have a fantastic 2017! #FlyAwayFriday
Napa is incredible. Make sure you get on a bike tour. It was the absolute highlight of my trip there. Although don't be fooled into thinking they are short rides between the vineyards. Some are quite a distance. All worth it in the end though π
So exciting Kana!! You're going to love Australia. Have you been before? Where else other than Sydney are you thinking?
Ahhh, your whole list is so great. A puppy!!! Eeeiii π
Whoaaa! Some amazing travel plans in here! I am a little bit jealous (in a good way, you know). In my case, I have to get into the healthy trend too. My husband and I started later last year and things are going well. I want to discover new places in California and go back to San Francisco. I want to revisit other places too. best wishes for the new year! #FlyAwayFriday
You have quite a list of places to visit in 2017! Can I recommend instead of just Auckland, New Zealand, make New Zealand a whole trip and see both the North and South Islands. I absolutely fell in love with NZ and it now holds the spot in my heart for most amazing country in the entire world. In fact, I wrote a blog post about it! Just my two cents! Otherwise, I can't wait to follow your adventures and see what 2017 brings! #flyawayfriday
Congratulations Kana! You must be so excited about your wedding – 2017 sounds like it is going to be an amazing year for you and I can't wait to follow along on your adventures!
Getting healthier is a resolution of mine too to the point where I go to yoga every day to ensure it becomes a part of my lifestyle. Your plans sound great. Local can lead to awesome discoveries π Australia is fabulous. I am there right now in Queensland on the Gold Coast visiting my in-laws π Travel plans this year are really Disney world again for Christmas, Possibly Sint Maarten with a day trip to St Barths, and a trip down the east coast of Canada to Nova Scotia for my husband's birthday. If a money tree appears in my life that is constantly blooming, more may be added π Would love to get to Japan! #flyawayfriday
I LOVE Southern California and I can't wait to read about your adventures in Temecula. Sounds like you've got plenty to look forward to in 2017.
OH awesome! I know what you mean about health. I am working on simply stretching more. Something has happened that is just what my body seems to need now. And I love exploring local areas! For those of us far away, exploring CA sounds so enticing just on it's own! Here's to the new year! π Here's what I did looking back:

I love that you are focusing on exploring your backyard this year. I think it is important and easy to forget as a travel blogger to look outward all the time. Where to next. Looking at where you live in new ways keeps the local love alive. AND besides – we all want to know what you like to do where you are! Cheers from Copenhagen, Erin #FlyAwayFriday
Awesome resolutions, definitely all about saying "yes" to things and getting out there trying new things! Also, stoked to hear Napa and Temecula are on your list this year, I'm guessing there will be some wine tasting posts?
Those are some awesome travel plans you've got lined up for this year. Really spread out and hope you enjoy Oz! (my home!) Some good resolutions too, agree I need to say "Yes!" more. Here's to a great 2017 #flyawayfriday

That's amazing your NYR from last year is still going strong with your husband! So much respect! Ahh San Francisco – yes, love it there so much! Thanks so much for stopping by Ruth! xo
Lynne – you have the best advice! Yes I will definitely check out both the North and South Islands; I think we'll have enough time to do it! Especially since you've labeled it the most amazing country in the entire world!!! That's quite the statement and I can't wait to check it out π I'll definitely be looking for your blog post when the time comes!!!! xo
Thank you so much Flo! I'm excited but I have so many other things before October, I'm not becoming a Bridezilla quite yet, haha! Can't wait for YOUR adventures this year! xo
Wow that's amazing – you go! That's great to hear that Australia is wonderful! I've always imagined it being so, so I can't wait to see it in person π Disney World will be so fun, I'm jealous! Your travel plans sound amazing! Can't wait to follow your year! xo
