Kinopio’s Cafe | Super Nintendo World

Super Nintendo World
Let’s go to Kinopio’s Cafe!

Ever since the Super Nintendo World opened, I knew I had to go to Kinopio’s Cafe, also known as Toadstool Cafe. As a 90’s child, Super Mario World took up a lot of my childhood, and continue to love anything Nintendo-related. I’ll be writing up a Super Nintendo World post to share the experience in general (coming soon!), but Kinopio’s Cafe deserved its own post. You can also click here to see all my Japan posts!

If you’re unfamiliar, Kinopio’s Cafe sits inside the Super Nintendo World inside Universal Studios Japan. It’s the only seated dining option inside the Super Nintendo World and an absolute must-visit.

Getting into Kinopio’s Cafe (Toadstool Cafe)

Tickets for USJ
Time tickets to enter the cafe

Something I didn’t know when I got there but you should, is that you need time tickets to enter the cafe. You can’t make reservations, but you’ll need these tickets above. Once you enter the Super Nintendo World, go downstairs to the Kinopio’s Cafe entrance where you’ll hopefully see someone giving out tickets like these. The tickets will have a 15 minute time span displayed where you can enter the cafe. If you don’t have it, you can’t get in, so make sure you grab these! For those that can’t read Japanese, it also states that it’s 1 ticket per person and parties with more than 5 people could be split up for seating.

Once You’re In

Kinopio's Cafe
The cutest!

Once you get into the line at the cafe, you’ll order at the most adorable register. The menu is of course themed, clear, and too cute! The portions are on the smaller size in comparison to American dishes, so if you’re hungry, I recommend ordering a few items. We ordered soup, two main entrees, two desserts, ad two drinks.

Food at Kinopio’s Cafe (Toadstool Cafe)

Universal Studios Japan
Hot Yuzu and Lemon Soda

I’ve said this several times on TikTok, and I’ll say it again. In Japan, just because the food is aesthetically pleasing doesn’t mean it’s not good. In the states, cute or ‘grammable food generally lacks taste or flavor, but not in Japan. The quality of the food is just as important as how it’s presented.

Both of these drinks were delicious! The one on the left is a hot yuzu drink with whipped cream and toppings. The right one is a cold lemon soda with star-shaped jellies!

Teriyaki Chicken and Star Rice!
Kinopio's Cafe
Mario Cheeseburger, fries, and pickled veggies!

For entrees, we ordered the Teriyaki Chicken Star Rice dish, the Mario Cheeseburger, and the Kinopio Mushroom Soup! All 3 dishes were absolutely delicious.

Kinopio's Cafe
Tiramisu! SO CUTE!
Kinopio's Cafe
Chocolate Cake (so yummy!)

We had Kinopio’s Log Chocolate Cake for dessert and the Question Mark Tiramisu! I wish we had also ordered the Goal Post Cake since both were fairly small. Again, the desserts were scrumptious as well.

I have no regrets about eating at Kinopio’s Cafe, nor how much we spent that day (haha)! If you go to Japan and have the opportunity to visit Osaka, I highly recommend going.

Sorry, but where and how do you get those tickets? Thanks

Hi Ana! The cafe staff passes out the timed tickets to the cafe by the cafe entrance. As soon as you get to Super Nintendo World, I highly suggest you go down to the cafe and grab timed tickets. If they’re not handing them out, they are probably sold out for the day, but I recommend you asking! Hope this helps 🙂
