For this week in Los Angeles, let’s get fancy! That’s right, put on your best pair of dress shoes and get yourself to the L.A. Opera. In the City of Angels there are endless entertainment possibilities so why should a show at the L.A. Opera be an option? Besides the fact that the this amazing non-profit organization helps fund art education around different Los Angeles neighborhoods, it is also home to many stage premiers for spectacular performance since the 1980’s. If you are wondering if a visit to an opera is right for you, here are 4 reasons why you should visit the L.A. Opera!
1. Special Occassion – If you’re looking to impress someone for a special occasion, getting dolled up for a night at the Opera is a must! Whether it is a romantic date, a birthday, or just a nice ‘treat yourself’ type of day, putting on your fancy clothes will get you in the mood to strut your stuff at this beautiful venue. The theme of the interior decor is gold so order a glass of champagne from their bar and let yourself shine!
2. Travel Through Time –Have you ever wanted to escape into another decade, or even century, and walk in someone else’s shoes? The L.A. Opera is a place for you to get lost in an exciting story from a different way of living. From Ancient Egypt to the Prohibition Era, so many stories were told on this stage! Pick your journey by perusing through their Performance Calendar to see what time period you’d like to jump into. No time machine needed here.
3. Try Something New –That’s right, do it just to try something new! Everyone has a bucket list, right? Why not add experiencing a wonderful show at the L.A. Opera to your list and know that you’re enriching yourself in a new way? If you’ve gone to New York City to see a show on Broadway or to London to enjoy a musical on the West End, then why not go over to DTLA to see a live performance that’s been raved about throughout different parts of the world? Instead of flying to Switzerland to see the ballet, the ballet came to you.
4. Art Appreciation – I have to admit that the thought of going to the L.A. Opera was intimidating at first because I had no idea if I would be able to understand anything. Art itself is intimidating and when it’s in a different language and style of singing, it’s even more so! After watching my first show at the L.A. Opera, all of that fear went away. Yes, I didn’t understand the language they sang in but the performance of the artists spoke to me. Once you see the performers work their magic through the movement of their bodies, action speaks louder than words.
Obviously, there are many other reasons to visit such a gorgeous venue full of culture and art but I hope those 4 reasons will push you a little bit closer towards making that visit a reality! There is something for everyone of every taste. Find out more about their events and talks on their website. Get ready to be transported into another era and enjoy getting lost.
