Review of the Marriott Portland Downtown Waterfront

Marriott Downtown Portland Waterfront Review

The Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront graciously offered me a special rate for this stay. However, all opinions are as always, my own.

Want to know a funny fact about the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront to start off this post? Well, when I was trying to get into the hospitality business after getting tired of high fashion retail, I applied to this hotel a couple of times. I got rejected….multiple times, ha! It’s ok though and absolutely no hard feelings! I was hired by the Marriott down the street by the water and ended up having a great relationship with the sales team at the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront.

If you couldn’t figure it out from that or you don’t know much about me, I used to live in Portland for about 4 years total. I love the city and when I moved to Los Angeles, I left a fabulous city and a ton of my close friends up there. So naturally, I visit Portland 1-2 times a year. This isn’t the first time I’ve stayed at the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront nor is it the first time I’ve written about them! But it is the first time I’ve dedicated a post to them on my Checking In series. Why? Because it’s worth trying to convince you to stay there!

Location:
The location of the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront is everything. The name says it all, it’s downtown and on the waterfront. If you get a waterfront view, it’s stunning! The view of the bridges, the water and Tom McCall Park is the best thing to wake up to. Not only that, downtown Portland is actually fairly small in comparison to let’s say, Seattle, Chicago, Los Angeles or New York. That’s why even though you’re on the waterfront, it doesn’t mean you’re away from all the action. Pretty much anywhere you need to go from the hotel is walkable, accessible via Streetcar or the MAX or a very cheap Uber ride. You really can’t ask for a better location than where the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront is!

Rooms:
There’s 500 rooms at the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront with several different types of room options. Whatever you end up choosing, all the rooms are newly renovated and redesigning approximately 2 years ago. Which, in hotel terms is pretty new! The hotel is flawless and designed to depict the wonderful city of Portland. In fact, I know what the hotel looked like before it was renovated because I had dined there back when I lived in Portland. Let me tell you, it’s a huge difference! The lobby, other public spaces, amenities and rooms.

We were lucky enough to stay in the High Floor Waterview King Bed room on the 15th floor. Pictures tell all but the view from our room was gorgeous, whether it’s a beautiful clear day or in the evening. As for the interior, the decor is based around Portland; wooden blocks and bicycle wall paintings to start. The room was spacious and the bed was beyond comfortable. The design of the room as a whole including the restroom is modern-chic but not overly minimalistic which I so appreciate!

M Club Lounge:
One of Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront’s new features when they renovated was the M Club Lounge. Guests that are Platinum or Gold Members of the Marriott Rewards program has complimentary access to the M Club Lounge. However, other guests have the opportunity to purchase a pass into the lounge as well. The lounge is extremely spacious and has incredible amenities unlike other exclusive hotel lounges. It’s available 24 hours to use and they have an extensive selection of beverages (juices, soda, tea, coffee) as well as light snacks. During breakfast hours, they serve practically a full breakfast buffet. From Sunday through Thursday from 5-7 PM the M Club Lounge serves appetizers, then dessert from 7-9 PM. Not to mention drinks for purchase. If you’re staying for a while, I highly recommend getting access to the lounge! The wifi is strong, the 24 hour access to drinks and food is amazing, complimentary breakfast and the appetizer hour has so much food it’s practically dinner!
