Are you a Pokeomon fan? Who isn’t, right? When I found out the Pokemon Cafe was in Tokyo, I immediately added it to my priority list of places to go. Big thank you to one of my Instagram followers, @Gorudo-san for the heads up about the Pokemon Cafe! Even though I was planning on blogging about the Pokemon Cafe, I knew I had to when both my Pokemon Cafe Instagram photos got the highest amount of likes in Life in Wanderlust history! Let’s get started on my Pokemon Cafe review!
Being born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, Pokemon has been a huge part of my life and pretty much the Japanese culture since I was a teenager. I had the original Pokemon Gameboy games and continued to play through high school. Then of course a couple years ago, Pokemon Go blew up and you better believe I was part of that hype too. Pokemon isn’t only cute and fun but really sentimental for me which is probably why I adore it so much.
Things To Know:
Before I get into the details of the Pokemon Cafe experience in Tokyo, I want to start by informing you that the Pokemon Cafe is reservations-only. You must make reservations to dine there and I highly recommend making them as early as possible! Especially for weekends, holidays or school holiday seasons, the reservation slots fill up 3+ months ahead. You can click here for the official Pokemon Cafe reservations site! They do have a stand-by line but don’t be too hopeful.
When You Get There
When you arrive at the Pokemon Cafe, they’ll check your reservations and seat you right on time. From the second you locate the Pokemon Cafe, the fun experience starts. Everything from the adorable decor, the friendly staff and the thoughtful details in every corner. You’ll get assigned a table and once you get settled, you’ll get the menu and an explanation of how to order from the ipad. The ipad is great since it’s available in several languages! Pick the dishes and drinks you want, submit your order and you’re done!
The Experience
The food comes out pretty quickly but make sure you spend some time checking out the cafe itself. They have memorabilia, tons of stuffed animals, photo ops and a surprise visit from a Pokemon! When I was at the Pokemon Cafe, our ‘surprise Pokemon guest’ was Chef Pikachu in his cute little chef outfit. He performs a couple fun dances for the crowd and every person there gets the opportunity to shake his little paw! Too cute! Trust me, this was exciting for both kids and adults alike.
The Food
Now for the most important part; the food. I wasn’t sure if the food was going to be all that great but at the same time had some expectations because I don’t think there’s such a thing as ‘bad food’ in Tokyo, to be completely honest. The verdict? It’s delicious. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality even though, let’s be honest, I ordered everything for the aesthetic. Everything came out fresh, excruciatingly adorable and tasty. Is it a bit overpriced? Sure, but let’s remember we’re experiencing themed dining of one of the most recognizable characters in the world.
Overall Thoughts
Do I recommend the Pokemon Cafe? 100 times yes. Whether you’re an adult and used to play Pokemon or you have kids that do, you’re in for a treat. The entire experience is fun, adorable, visually pleasing and delicious. Oh, don’t forget to grab Pokemon Cafe exclusive merchandise before you leave! I brought home a Pikachu mug and a Chef Pikachu stuffed animal.
