Today I’m introducing 10 of the best desserts in Los Angeles, a blog post I’ve been working on for a while now. I really wasn’t interested in putting the first ten desserts I’ve tried or had photos of but instead, a list of truly delightful and delicious desserts in Los Angeles that would accommodate a multitude of different tastes. This post has been a long time coming, so I’m super excited to finally share. Ready to get real hungry, real quick? #SorryNotSorry
Somi Somi
Oh Somi Somi, such a fun and delicious place you are. Located in Little Tokyo, Somi Somi offers ah-boongs which are taiyaki (a fish shaped pancake with filling) topped with soft-serve. They have a good selection of fillings for the taiyaki as well as soft-serve flavors and toppings. It’s not only Instagrammable, friends. It’s also delicious!
Milkjar Cookies
For how many times I’ve enjoyed Milkjar Cookies, I’m shooketh that I couldn’t find photos of it in my camera roll! I have to thank my bestie Grace for introducing me to possibly the best cookies I’ve ever had in my life. I’m quite the cookie snob and damn, you’re missing out if you don’t live life without trying Milkjar Cookies. If I had to pick just one place as the best dessert in Los Angeles, it would be them. Hands down, no question. Their birthday cookie and chocolate chip cookie are ones I always order 2 of!
Urth Caffe
Every time I go to Urth Caffe, which is mostly for actual food, I’m tempted by their beautifully curated dessert display. Of course, sometimes I give into that temptation. My favorite desserts from Urth Caffe are their pumpkin pie, the flourless matcha cake and their triple chocolate cookie. Oh shoot, I also love their coconut custard pie. See why Urth Caffe had to be added to the best desserts in LA? They have so many!
McConnell’s Ice Cream
I don’t think I can be convinced to love a different ice cream place (but I’m open to recommendations) at this point in my life. McConnell’s is my absolute favorite place to go when I’m craving ice cream. While this photo was taken at the McConnell’s in Santa Barbara, I go to the McConnell’s inside Grand Central Market. Their ice creams are rich, creamy and the flavors are so fun! Truly one of the best desserts in Los Angeles, yum!
Sharp Tea
Even though I love boba, my husband loves boba and he was excited to find Sharp Tea in Little Tokyo here in Los Angeles. We would stop by after grocery shopping for boba and until recently, didn’t realize they had air cakes! If you’re looking for a good air cake, try Sharp Tea. Like the namesake, the cakes are so airy, fluffy and melts in your mouth. If you’re looking for a more unique dessert, give Sharp Tea’s air cakes a try!
Brady’s Bakery
Gotta love social media for discovering new businesses because Brady’s Bakery was one of the great finds. When I saw their IG feed and found out they were local, I had to place an order. Brady’s Bakery (named after the owner’s dog, too cute!) bakes these chunky, mouth-watering cookies that I’m so glad I tried. My favorite flavor is the cookies and cream! They don’t have a storefront so make sure you order online (pick-up, shipping, local delivery or Postmates).
Buttery Popcorn Co.
If you’ve never been to Smorgasburg in LA, you should check it out. It’s a big food market in downtown Los Angeles where tons of small businesses gather. One of them is Buttery Popcorn Co and as a popcorn aficionado, I had to give them a try. They’re so good and fun, guys! My favorite is the matcha popcorn and the churro popcorn. You can order online from them as well!
California Donuts
I still remember when California Donuts blew up on Instagram a few years ago. I was definitely one of those influenced people who ended up lining up just to grab the Panda donut. Now that I live less than two miles away from California Donuts and know the optimal times to go, making it more accessible, in my mind, it’s one of the desserts in Los Angeles. My favorite donut is their matcha donut and the cookies and cream donut!
Dolly Llama
When I think of the best desserts in LA, I immediately think about the Dolly Llama. First of all, how creative is the name? Second, how can you not drool over this photo? They make these amazing bubble waffle crepes topped with your choice of ice cream, toppings and sauces. There’s other waffle options too (like the waffle stick on the right) but trust me and go with the bubble waffle crepes. You can thank me later!
Sprinkles Cupcakes
I contemplated whether or not I wanted to add Sprinkles Cupcakes in this list seeing as it’s a company that’s widespread throughout the country and not necessarily specific to Los Angeles. But then again, I really do love and often eat at Sprinkles so why not, right? While I love their cupcakes, I highly recommend finding a Sprinkles location in Los Angeles that offers ice cream as well. The Sprinkles Cupcake Sundae is worth whatever calories are probably in there (let’s not even go there).
Honorable Mention: Hapa Cupcakes
I’m adding Hapa Cupcakes as an honorable mention only because they’re technically not in Los Angeles. Hapa Cupcakes has two stores in Brea and Fullerton which are cities in Orange County, just south of Los Angeles. They’re run by 2 hapa girls (who I adore) and their baked goodies are to die for! Pictured here are their cake-stuffed cookies but honestly, you can’t go wrong with anything from their menu. You can order their cookies online!
