Tips On Surviving EDC & Other Music Festivals

Happy March! Spring is pretty much upon us and you know what that means? Music Festival season! Whether you’re going to EDC (Electric Daisy Carnival), Coachella, HardFest, Burning Man, Ultra Music Festival orwhatever else, you can always use some friendly tips from an EDC Las Vegas goer! Attending last year’s EDC Las Vegas which was 3 days of partying from 8PM-6AM in 100+ degree heat taught me a few things!

So if it’s your first time attending music festivals or can use a few friendly reminders before going back at it, keep reading! Just don’t forget, the most important thing is to stay safe and enjoy yourself!

Stay Hydrated – It’s common sense but when you’re freaking out over your favorite artist and mindlessly dancing all through the night, it’s easy to get dehydrated. Especially at EDC Vegas, it’s 90+ degrees at 2AM! There’s always water stations so keep hydrated! I carry around the hydration backpacks so I don’t have to have a bottle or have to go back to the water station frequently.

Wear Comfortable Shoes – I can’t emphasize this enough! The first night of EDC, it was fashion first in my mind. After the long walk from the shuttle to the entrance and a couple of shows, my feet were bleeding, blistered and outright disgusting. Not only that, nobody is wearing fashionable shoes there! Everyone is in comfortable flats or sneakers (or nothing at all – hey, to each their own!). I was clearly the naive newbie! Trust me, the day after and until forever, I was and will be in comfortable shoes.

Bring Cash – When you’re dancing from one show to another from 8PM-6AM, you get hungry. Really hungry. Thankfully there’s food stands with delicious late night tacos, french fries and for the healthier people, fruits and salad bars. Each vendor differs but I noticed most of them only take cash. Bring some cash to fuel yourself for the rest of the night!

Prioritize Artists – With a packed schedule and incredible lineups at these music festivals, it’s crucial to prioritize artists. EDC has a fantastic app where you can create your own schedule! Sometimes it’s heartbreaking though, be forewarned. For EDC Vegas 2016, Martin Garrix and the Chainsmokers were playing at the same time! WHY. With big names and not enough time, they can overlap so make sure you don’t miss both by trying to reach a consensus!

Fanny Pack – Thankfully, fanny packs seem to be making a quiet comeback but I still think it’s pretty hideous. Even so, you better believe I’ll be sporting a fanny pack for EDC this year! It’s the worst to be carrying anything other than a fanny pack or a small backpack at music festivals. Do yourself a favor and free your hands!

Bring Toilet Paper – If you aren’t VIP (some VIP’s get private bathrooms), especially if you’re a girl, consider bringing toilet paper. By the end of the night, the porta potties run out of toilet paper and won’t restock them. I know, so gross! Need I say more?

Know The Grounds – Most music festivals have large spaces and it’s important to know how it’s laid out. I usually spend the first hour or so reading the map and walking around to explore. It’s useful knowledge for when you have to run from one show to the next, so you’re not taking the long way and missing it. But it’s also good to know where the bathroom areas, food, water stations and for important things like First Aid stations are.

Pay For Shuttle Service – This is specifically for EDC Las Vegas but it could be relevant to other festivals as well. I know festival tickets can cost an arm and a leg but the shuttle pass is so worth it! If you think Uber or Lyft is the answer, so does everyone else. From the shuttle, the view of the car entrance is miles and miles long. The EDC shuttle gets a special route through the military base to avoid most of the traffic.

♡♡♡

I hope these tips make for a seamless and fun music festival experience! If you’re wondering, while I can’t make it to Coachella this year since I’ll be traveling, I will be at EDC Las Vegas in June! If you’ll be there too, let me know!

I've never actually been to a big music festival, I stick to concerts mostly, but I imagine these would be good tips! I also didn't know that EDC stood for Electric Daisy Carnival!

Festivals can be pretty expensive and all of them have strange stigmas so I understand, haha! A lot of them are pretty fun, though! Thanks for stopping by! xo
